New Orleans, LA (November 28, 2018) –Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #iGiveCatholicis an online crowdfunding event that kicks off the charitable season and brings the Catholic community together to give thanks and give back.

The results of #iGiveCatholic 2018 are in! A total of over $5.6 million was raised for parishes, schools, and nonprofit ministries across the country during the 24-hour online giving event held on #GivingTuesday (November 27, 2018). Participating organizations represented 29 archdioceses and dioceses, making this the largest—and most successful—Catholic crowdfunding event to date.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout and participation by so many members of the Catholic community this year who collectively raised millions for the participating organizations,”

said Cory J. Howat, president of #iGiveCatholic.

“This is a testament to how much people care about giving thanks and giving back. We want to send a huge thank you to everyone who chose to give Catholic.”

At the close of the 24-hour period, the number of donors totaled more than 23,000, 19,542 of those being online donors. There were 28,085 gifts made, which came in from all 50 states, as well as 6 countries, including Afghanistan, Belgium, Canada, Hong Kong, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. The average gift amount was $200.28, with 16.3 gifts given per minute.

The success of this year’s initiative was made possible thanks to its national sponsor, Our Sunday Visitor. According to Jason Shanks, president of Our Sunday Visitor Institute, “We believe #iGiveCatholic is a great vehicle for everyone to celebrate Catholic philanthropy. #iGiveCatholic is a creative way to engage new donors and an ideal way to collectively show the impact that Catholic donors have in our community.”
