A home of hospitality
Heart's Home is a Catholic Nonprofit Organization founded in 1990. It forms and sends volunteers all around the world to be a presence of consolation to the ones who suffer the most.
Since 1990 more than 1,400 volunteers from 38 nationalities became part of this radical adventure with God leading them to a new country, a new heart and a new gaze. “The volunteers will not set off as conquerors, but as servants, even as disciples. They will begin this adventure being sure that they will receive much more than they will give... They will mainly be seekers of God.” (Heart’s Home’s Charter).
Every Heart's Home center is a community of 4 or 5 young adults immersed in an underprivileged area and sharing a simple life with their neighbors. It is a home of hospitality where anyone knocking at the door will be welcomed and listened to.
In the USA, Heart's Home includes :
- One center in Brooklyn, New york, ministering to around 350 people. They visit weekly a shelter for women, run a youth group, visit artists in their studios, celebrate Thanksgiving and other holidays with the most lonely ones and organize cultural events to foster and spread a spirit of compassion.
- One Student Center in Spokane, WA.
- The International Center for a Culture of Compassion. Founded in 2007 to infuse a “culture of compassion” into society at large, it is located two hours from New York City. It is both a retreat open to anyone in search of silence and solitude, and a cultural center to inspire and nurture artists.
